Project Overview
The Town is considering whether to declare a portion of municipally owned lands at 248 Broadway — currently under long-term lease to the Town Centre Mall and containing the Canadian Tire building and adjacent parking lot—as surplus. As a first step, the Town is launching a public engagement process to hear your feedback and ensure community voices help shape the decision.
Strategic Alignment
The potential surplus declaration of 248 Broadway aligns with Council’s priorities identified during the 2023 Strategic Planning session and outlined in the Community Strategic Plan . It is supported by the following areas of focus:
-
Strategic Alignment – Connects to the Community Strategic Plan (CSP) as revised by the current Council following the April 6, 2023 Strategic Priorities session
-
Fiscal Responsibility – Emphasizes funding priorities with the goal of minimizing tax increases
-
Economic Growth – Highlights potential for jobs, housing, and revitalization
-
Transparency & Compliance – Follows the public surplusing process established by the Land Disposition Bylaw (2021-031)
-
Community Benefit – Focuses on potential reinvestment in Town priorities like infrastructure, facilities and parks
