How property taxes are calculated

Your property tax bill is made up of three main components:

  1. Education taxes

This tax rate is set by the Province of Ontario and remitted to your preferred local school board. To change your school board support, contact the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) .

  2. Municipal taxes

This tax rate is set by the Town of Tillsonburg to cover the cost of supplying municipal services as determined through the annual budget process. Revenues from provincial grants, user fees, and other sources are deducted from total expenditures, resulting in the amount that must be raised through taxation.

  3. County taxes

A portion of the tax bill for all residents of the County of Oxford is returned to the County to support services including Ontario Works, social housing, library and cultural services, and land ambulance.

Late payments

Penalty and interest are charged at 1.25% per month (15% per annum). Charges are applied the day after an instalment is due and again on the first business day of each month for all past-due balances.

Late payment charges are set in accordance with current legislation and cannot be waived. If payment in full is not received by the instalment due date, a property tax arrears notice will be issued. Failure to receive a bill does not excuse the property owner from payment responsibility.
